What is Zen Shiatsu Therapy?

Zen Shiatsu Therapy is a Japanese therapy that traces its origins back to Traditional Chinese Medicine. The aim is to restore harmony to the body by balancing the meridians, or pathways through which vital energy travels through the body. Each meridian corresponds to a particular organ and when stimulated helps the body address the root cause of a patient’s symptoms.

Energy Imbalance

The practice of Zen Shiatsu Therapy interprets health problems in terms of muscular skeletal and in terms of energy imbalances in the body’s meridians; when energy in one of the meridians is depleted, there will be an excess of energy elsewhere to compensate, based on the philosophy of yin and yang.

Therapists are trained to tune in and discover where the deficiencies in the body are, and apply pressure with their thumbs, palms, and fingers to the corresponding points in order to stimulate energy flow in that meridian. Measuring the responses of the patient throughout the treatment, the therapist gradually restores the natural flow of energy. Patients often feel a deep sense of relief and relaxation.
